Re: greatness
Fri, December 30, 2005 - 8:28 AMto tell you the truth...i have no idea. as a child i remember fully and totally believing(and telling people) that i wanted to save the world. this doesnt mean-saving the environment, saving politics, saving society...etc. nothing as specific as that..i just remember the feeling of total confidence that i would save the world..at the time it didnt matter how...it was just a belief that i would. now...i have realised that there are so many things that i am passionate about, so many points of view and opinions that i am able to understand, so many life stories that i can empathise with...that one single thing is not for me. sometimes i wonder if my lack of concrete identity, or concrete ownership of my thoughts and feelings may point me in the right direction. because often, i understand a person's passion, hobby, idea or opinion so well..i become interested in it as well.....maybe my empathy and ability to put myself in another person's shoes is the way that i will ultimately reach greatness.
constantly setting myself goals and beating my personal best is the way to reach greatness in terms of a list..but i think true greatness will be being known for your actions....but still being able to feel humbled by a person who has lived a harder life and lived through it.
my other passion is the stories of elderly people and the effect that you can make on one person just through love and learning.....
we shall see what comes of it all

Re: greatness
Fri, December 30, 2005 - 8:31 AMgreatness is being known for your deeds without having set out with the intention of gaining fame but setting out with compassion to help someone...and then people just knowing about it....
greatness is a feeling of peace and fulfillment...the kind you get when you are at peace with yourself....the kind got when you are at peace with your fellow man. my heroes are people that never set out to be heroes, that just happened to become known...those people that only learnt or reached greatness through hardship...such as Nelson Mandela
